Usman Ally is an ensemble member of American Theater Company.
Born and raised in Southern and Eastern Africa, Usman moved to the United
States in 2000.
He received a BA in Theater and Cultural Anthropology from Lewis and Clark
College, and graduated with an MFA in Acting Magna Cum Laude from the
University of Florida.
Usman spends times most of his time between Chicago and New York, although
his acting work has taken him to much of the United States. Usman is best
known for his starring role in THE ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD DEITY (World
Premiere Victory Gardens Chicago, New York Premiere Second Stage, and West
Coast Premiere Geffen Playhouse) which went on to receive a Pulitzer
Nomination, and win the OBIE, LORTEL, NEW YORK TIMES and JEFF AWARDS for
Best Play.
On television Usman can be seen as a recurring character on Season 4 of
DAMAGES.
Upcoming Projects:
Usman will be starring as the lead role in DISGRACED by Ayad Akhtar. World
Premiere at American Theater Company, co-produced by the ARAKA Group
Broadway.
Awards and Recognition:
Usman is the 2010 recipient of the Fox Fellowship/Theater Communications
Group Award for Artists of Extraordinary Potential. He is currently writing
yet to be titled play to be produced at American Theater Company.
New City Stage named Usman Ally one of the TOP 5 Actors of 2008 and 2009
for his work in CELEBRITY ROW (ATC) and THE ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD
DEITY (Victory Gardens)
