A native Chicagoan, Franette is grateful for the incredibly supportive and nurturing Chicago theatre community. She has enjoyed working at such diverse area theatres as Steppenwolf, Terrapin, Next, Drury Lane Oakbrook, Pegasus, City Lit, Eclipse, Beacon Street, Bailiwick, greasy joan & co, Illinois Theatre Center, Apple Tree, Infamous Commonwealth, Backstage, Theatre at the Center, and New American Theatre in roles ranging from a seductive fascist to a warbling stoat.
She also enjoys narrating audio books and acting in Radio Drama including such series as Mike Hammer, The Twilight Zone, Left Behind and Unshackled, in part because on the radio and in audio books, she can play roles written for tall women.
Franette also taught theatre for many years at the National High School Institute (at Northwestern University) and at The Chicago Academy for the Arts. She holds a degree in Theatre from Yale University and has also studied at American Conservatory Theatre's summer conservatory program, at Steppenwolf, and with Fiona Shaw at the British Academy for Dramatic Art at Oxford, England.
She continues to believe that Shakespeare got it right when he had Fabian declare, "If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction", and is trying still to teach herself to stop being surprised by the oddities and fabulous occurrences that the universe continues to lay at our doorsteps.
