Bernard, a member of Actors’ Equity Association, has made hundreds of appearances in many dozens of professional productions. Favorites include Serge in Art, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, the Coach in That Championship Season and John in The Subject Was Roses. He has also appeared in Stuttgart, Germany, in productions of The Guys and Brighton Beach Memoirs, for the U.S. military department of Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
An accomplished stage actor, Bernard has lately been building his film, industrial, voiceover and commercial credits. He was the Minister in Keith Bearden’s (director of Miss January) Train Town, shown at the 2007 Chicago International Film Festival and played principal roles in Killing the Cat (Hodowany Productions) and Presence of Mind (Pyramid Productions).
Outside of his acting career, Bernard is a produced playwright, director, musician and composer. His original plays have been staged in the Chicago area at professional theaters and at area colleges and universities, including Loyola and Northwestern. His educational theater pieces have toured grade and middle schools. His directing credits include critically-acclaimed productions of Collected Stories, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Extremities, as well as productions of his own original plays and musicals. He teaches music at The Music Connection, with locations in Orland Park and Frankfort, Illinois.
