Resume
Since graduating from Loyola University Chicago with a B.A. in Theatre and a minor in English, Atra Asdou has worked at various theatres in and around Chicagoland including The Goodman, Chicago Dramatists, Silk Road, and, most recently, Writers’ Theatre. Whilst playing Ellie Dunn in William Brown’s production of “Heartbreak House” at Writers’ Theatre where she was a part of an astonishing ensemble, she was regarded by the Chicago Sun-Times as “a bristlingly intelligent power player” and “romanticism embodied” by Chicago Theatre Beat. Currently, she is working on co-writing a screenplay and later, will be appearing in the film "Night Lights," set to film in Chicago this July.
Having taken classes and workshops with various instructors, including Loyola’s Mark Lococo, Jonathan Wilson, and Jonathan Weir as well as Gray Talent Group’s Janet Ulrich-Brooks, and The Neofuturarium’s Genevra Gallo-Bayiates and Bilal Dardai, Atra hopes to continue honing her performance skills, perhaps by exploring improv next.
She feels there's no greater satisfaction than understanding a character and the world into which they've been written. Acting aside, Atra can be found learning tunes on her newly acquired, pearly-white, EAD button accordion and perhaps givin’ some more lovin’ to her Eb diatonic blues harp, writing letters, plays, screen-plays, and presently her somewhat babbling bio blurb, making yogurt, spending time at the library, and looking for the answers to “WHO” “WHAT” “WHEN” “WHERE” and “WHY” with her beautiful friends, family, and co-conspirators.
She is a first generation American and a Chicagoan since birth.
